TAKING EFFECTIVE NOTES
WHAT IS NOTE TAKING ?
Writting down an ideas from lectures and reading in our own words. For lecturer, if they talking in front, we should taking all the notes that they though.
WHY TAKE NOTES ?
- Help us to pay attention during class.
- Help us to study for quiz, test/final exam.
- Help us to improve our memory easily.
- Help us to take ownership of ideas.
- Help us to engage our senses.
- Help us to organise and process data and information.
- Help the lecturers test students on how well they captured given information.
WHY REVIEW NOTES ?
- We lose 80% of what we hear if its not recieved within a few hours.
- Identify any question for peers, the next class, or ask the professor.
- There is not enough time to absorb all the information given in class if its not recieved on a regular basis.
- Think : "If I were tested on this lecture tomorrow, would I ace it ?" Make it so !
HOW DO WE TAKE NOTES ?
- Date and label notes.
- Give ourselves space to write.
- Use abbreviations and symbols
- Use outline to show main ideas, supports, examples.
- Use your own languages.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE ENTERING THE CLASS ?
- Review the notes from the day before.
- Review your reading assignment.
- Write the date at the top of your paper notes.
- Leave spaces between the lines so that you can add information later.
